Updated: Police Searching for Would-Be Bank Robber

Man passed a note to bank employee but left empty-handed and remains at large; may be connected to Garfield robbery an hour later

A man attempted to rob Boiling Springs Savings Bank near the Duck Pond shortly after 9:00 a.m. Saturday but left empty-handed and remains at large, Ridgewood Police Chief John Ward told Patch.

The suspect, described as a white male possibly with a beard, clad in a maroon shirt with a baseball cap and sunglasses, reportedly passed a note to a bank employee. "No weapon was shown," the chief said, adding that the suspect left without any money. "Luckily there were no injuries," Ward told Patch shortly before 2:00 p.m. Saturday.

Ridgewood police, with the assistance of officers from Paramus, Glen Rock and the county's K-9 unit, "immediately set up a perimeter" to find the suspect, according to the chief. However, the suspect remains at large. The FBI has been contacted, Ward said.
