Police Investigating Rash of Car Burglaries

Numerous car burglaries reported over the past week

Police have been busy over the last week responding to a spate of recent burglaries in the area.

On September 23, a South Broad Street resident reported his car had been broken into and items taken. Two days later, a villager reported parking at 1200 East Ridgewood Ave and returning to find the passenger side window smashed. Her pocket book and laptop were missing, according to police.

Over the next few days, a Garfield Place resident report having her car broken into and so did a Melrose Place resident. Finally, on Saturday, Ridgewood and county police responded to the Duck Pond on report of another break-in. At a dumpster near the vehicle police found a series of women's purses. A county police dog was sent to the site of the break-in, which is right near the beginning of the bike path.

But car break-ins weren't the only theft taking place. This weekend also featured a break-in of a East Saddle River Road home on Friday night. No further information on the break-in was immediately available and detectives, already busy with a list of car burglaries, have it on the list.

The RPD is reminding residents to lock vehicles when they are parked in their driveway. They should also not leave high-value items in the vehicle, including spare keys and key codes that are sometimes in the owner's manual.
