Police Warn of Raffle Scam

Collect your Visa-Mastercard prize after wiring over some money, letter instructs recipients.

If you've received a letter stating you just won a promotional program from major credit card companies, don't rush to claim your winnings – it's likely a scam.

According to village police, a Linwood Avenue resident told police a "suspicious" letter addressed to him said he'd won a promotional program from the Visa-Mastercard International Raffle Commission. The letter instructed the recipient to wire cash prior to receiving the prize.

Police are asking residents to be on the look out for similar scams and pay close attention to elderly relatives and neighbors often targeted by such schemes.
