Not Again!: Power Outages Plague PSE&G Again in Bergen, Passaic

Supply line problem at substation in Wayne led to elevator rescues in Glen Rock Tuesday afteroon, according to police

Power outages in Glen Rock Tuesday afternoon killed the juice to a traffic light and prompted rescues of individuals stuck in elevators, according to Glen Rock Police.

Cpt. Jonathan Miller said Harristown Road heading west toward Lincoln Avenue had experienced outages Tuesday afternoon. According to Miller, the stoplight at the intersection of Harristown and Maple was out. Ridgewood Signal Division responded to the scene with a generator, he added.

In a statement issued Tuesday afternoon, PSE&G said approximately 20,000 customers were without power in parts of Bergen and Passaic counties due to "an issue with a supply line at a substation in Wayne."

Despite a hope power would be returned by 4:00 p.m., Public Service spokesperson Deann Muzikar said it took a bit longer than initially expected. Service was restored Tuesday night, according to a company statement issued around 7:30 p.m.

Between 1 and 500 persons were without power in Glen Rock, according to the Public Service outage map.

Several individuals had to be rescued from elevators once the power went out, according to police. The first occurred at 65 Harristown Rd., which prompted a response by the Glen Rock Fire Department. The second incident took place at 266 Harristown Rd., where the office building's maintenance department rescued the party.

"We're keeping our Facebook page updated with the information as we have it so if anybody has any questions, we'll try to keep that as current as we can," Miller said.

According to the PSE&G outage map, neighboring towns had also been affected, including Fair Lawn, Paramus, Washington Township and others.

PSE&G has been a punching bag for angry Bergen County residents in the past few months. The gas and electric company was widely panned for its lack of planning and execution in restoring power after Hurricane Irene and the recent October snowstorm. Some were without power for a week after each respective storm.
