Ridgewood Bears Most Likely Litter Mates, Report says

Two bears roaming around Ridgewood in the last week were likely related, according to wildlife authorities.

The two yearling bears found in Ridgewood were likely from the same litter, according to a report on NJ.com.

On Tuesday, an estimated 120 lbs. black bear was spotted roaming around Orchard Elementary School. It ran up a tree in a Bellair backyard, where it was tranquilized and tagged. On Sunday, another small bear was chased by gun-wielding police from the Paramus border to Maple Park. It too was tranquilized and removed.

According to Tyco Animal Control manager Kim Nagle, the two bears were likely to have been litter mates. In all likelihood, they were traveling south when they were displaced by their mother so she could mate again, Nagle told NJ.com.
