Three Thefts Reported Throughout Town

A Valley Hospital employee and two residents were targeted in three separate incidents.

Ridgewood police reported three thefts over the past week.

  • At Valley Hospital, an employee reported a missing wallet.
  • A resident accused the former Amoretter Boutique of keeping her expensive handbag after permanently closing.
  • Another resident told police that her house was broken into, and a laptop was missing.

Returning to her office Jan. 27, a Valley Hospital employee found it entered. She told police that someone had removed her wallet. Later, it was discovered her credit card was fraudulently charged approximately $6,000. 

An Alpine Terrace resident reported Jan. 28 a missing handbag. In March 2009, she left a $4,200-Valentino purse at Amoretter Boutique, formerly located at 7 North Broad St.

Later, when she was unable to contact the storeowner, she found the shop had closed. Since then, she said she has been unsuccessful in her attempts to contact the owner.

The Ridgewood Detective Bureau is conducting investigations into the matters.

A resident of 111 East Ridgewood Avenue reported Feb. 1 that at 8:26 p.m. her home had been entered. The responding officers found the front-door lock broken, and the home entered. The homeowner said money and a laptop were taken. The matter is under investigation by the Ridgewood Detective Bureau and the Bergen County Sheriff's Department BCI.

Other police news:

  • A Circle Avenue resident reported Jan. 30 that in December 2009, she had two separate contractors working at her home. One contractor was working inside the home, and the second contractor— Ned Stevens Gutter Cleaning— had two workers outside. The homeowner heard the contractor in the home confront one of the employees from the gutter-cleaning service for entering the home. The homeowner then saw the worker leave the residence. The matter is under investigation by the Ridgewood Detective Bureau.
