Democrats, Republicans Battle for Senate Nomination in Primary

Tuesday election to determine Republican and Democrat candidates for the senate seat formerly held by the late Frank Lautenberg.

Registered Democrats and Republicans on Tuesday will have the opportunity to cast their ballots for their selection to contend for a U.S. Senate seat.

Polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. in both the village and the borough for the special election, which follows the death of the late Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ).

Newark Mayor Cory Booker, Rep. Rush Holt, Rep. Frank Pallone, and Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver are vying for the Democratic nomination.

Former Bogota Mayor Steve Lonegan takes on Alieta Eck, a Middlesex County physician, for the Republican nod.

Booker and Lonegan are considered the frontrunners in their respective parties, according to exit polls.

The special election will be held in October.
