Game On! Glen Rock 'Here to Stay'

Though large fundraising dollars haven't materialized, pro-turf group says it's made progress.

Grassroots turf group Game On! Glen Rock is continuing its effort to raise funds for a new turf complex at Lower Faber despite large financial roadblocks.

The group said on its Facebook page that it raised "almost $500" at a home run derby.

"GOGR has only had their 501c3 for 16 months and raising $2 million takes time," the turf advocates wrote on Facebook. "Our early efforts while didn't secure large sums of money did allow us to introduce ourselves to major corporations and get some commitments from small businesses to advertise on the field when it is built."

With cash on hand low (around $60,000), the borough council is considering whether to bond for the $2 million project or leave the funding as a private venture.

Here's the message in full:

Hi all! It has been a while since our last post. Game On just had a HR Derby hosted by the GR Men's Softball League. Thanks goes out to Sal at Francescas and Roy at Closeout Bats for donating prizes. I'd also like to thank Eric Orseck for seeing the value in the turf project. We had 17 participants which netted us almost $500. It was an event just to keep us active while the Council decides if they will be bonding the project, or deferring to GOGR to do the funding. If you haven't already, please go to Boiling Springs Bank and tell them you support us. The bank will donate money to us on your behalf if you have an account with them without you having to spend a dime. You can also open an account with $25 and it counts towards our minimum required supporters. GOGR has only had their 501c3 for 16 months and raising $2 million takes time. Our early efforts while didn't secure large sums of money did allow us to introduce ourselves to major corporations and get some commitments from small businesses to advertise on the field when it is built. Some of those businesses include Marron Gildea, Kayal Orthopedics, and US Sport Tech. Once we find out what the Council is doing we will restart our efforts. We are hear to stay...at least for the next few to several years. :-)
