Graydon Concession Stand Privatized Again in 2013

Trial run in 2012 went well enough for the village to award the vendor the contract again in 2013.

The concession stand at Graydon will remain privately run – at least for 2013, anyway.

Ridgewood's council agreed last Wednesday to renew the "Vending to Please" contract for a second straight year, receiving $18,000 from vendor Sergio Francisco for the new season.

Last year's trial basis went well, council members said. Local residents were hired and Graydon overall made money last year, in part due to Francisco paying $15,000.

The council will be requesting that Francisco maintain strict hours in 2013. He would occasionally close early in 2012, officials said.

Francisco will be paying the Village $18k this year. what was his gross revenues for the summer season. is $18k a fair return for the Village? how many employees were hired?

To RdgwdGRock - I hope I'm misunderstanding your comment, otherwise it is such thinking that is crushing capitalism. If the village wants a "fair" return, let them run it. However, if an entrepreneur from the private sector is capable of making a profit while providing goods and services, the entrepreneur is entitled to the fruits of his/her risk and labor. The contract price is increased 20%.

I am all for a business to earn their fair profits. I'm just asking a simple question. Seems on the surface that this is a "win" situation, in that the Village does not have to operate the snack stand. No hassels, just an easy $18k. if this contract was put out for bids, could the $$$ return have been higher?

$6,000 a month in rent for a three month season, with no real financial or business risk seems like a great deal for the Village.

Hot dogs are crap too, have been bringing my own food. But it would be nice if it were upgraded or run by ECB.
