Other NJ Counties Take Sides in Bergen's Donovan-Saudino Dispute

Donovan plans to ask the state Supreme Court to review a decision that would keep her out of the sheriff's contract negotiations, report says.

A feud between County Executive Kathleen Donovan and Bergen County Sheriff Michael Saudino has attracted the attention of counties across the state, and they're taking sides.

According to a NorthJersey.com report, Donovan's camp is planning to file an appeal with the state Supreme Court asking it to reconsider a lower court's ruling that she abide by a contract Saudino negotiated with his officers. Donovan argues the contract violates her right as county executive to co-negotiate, the report said.

Six counties - Mercer, Somerset, Atlantic, Morris, Camden and Middlesex - have all filed papers in support of Donovan's request to have the case reviewed, saying that the case's outcome will impact county executive's roles in labor disputes and negotiations statewide, the report said.
