Borough Schools Closed Wednesday, Makeup Day Questions Loom Large

It's unclear how lost school days will be made up – eliminating April Break or extending further into June are on the table.

With the announcement of Wednesday's school closures, Glen Rock students have been without books, lectures and tests now for eight school days.

Three emergency days are granted in the calendar but the school board will need to discuss how those lost days will be made up, board president Rona McNabola told Patch Tuesday afternoon.

Based on the current school calendar, families might not want to start booking trips to Cancun in April just yet.

"Right now, going by the calendar we have published, we would be eliminating the entire April break to get the five days," McNabola told Patch.

That's not finalized by any stretch, however. On the table is the potential that June is extended, however controversial that may be, she said.

It's also assuming schools are open on Thursday and Friday, the state does not ease the 180 instructional days required and no snow days are used, she said. Given the unpredictable weather seen over the last two years, the questions may not be fully realized for some time.

The board is likely to discuss the calendar at its Monday, Nov. 19 meeting.
