GR Turf Group Offering New Car in Big Fundraising Push

Glen Rock grassroots turf group holding a series of fundraisers to transform Faber Field into a top-notch athletic complex in 2014.

received a boost to its ongoing to renovate Faber Field last week when the Borough Council approved plans to hold a big charity event on August 18.

According to a statement released by the resident-led organization, "Glen Rock Family Day" is expected to draw approximately 3,000 people. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. with various activities, live music, wiffle ball games, and other fun stuff planned.

Other 2012 fundraising events also include a "Casino Royale" gala (it's legal!) on October 18, which will feature Matthew Friedman and the Uptown Sounds at the classic Venetian in Garfield.

A Chevy Cruz (estimated value – $24K) will be raffled off in April, with the winner announced at the gala. (So you should really attend, right?) The consolation prize? A $10,000 his-and-her Omega watch collection.

Game On! hopes to raise nearly $2 million through a combination of grants, corporate sponsorship, private donations and fundraisers. It recently brought on a grant writer to help snatch additional funding.

The borough council supports plans to renovate the stodgy Faber Field complex with new FieldTurf, particularly with no taxpayer monies earmarked for the project.

Construction is , though logistics have to be worked out and money raised before bid specifications can be drafted.
