Glen Rock Voters Decide on Two Council Seats Tuesday

Two Democrats that won as write-in candidates on an empty June primary ballot are challenging two incumbents for their seats on the Glen Rock Borough Council Tuesday.

Sean Brenann and Amy Martin are seeking to oust Councilman Michael O’Hagan and Councilwoman Mary Jane Surrago.

The future of a struggling central business district, taxes and a turf field proposal were among the issues that arose during a forum attended by the four candidates in October.

The seven-member council is currently comprised entirely of Republicans. Mayor John van Keuren is also a Republican.

Races for governor, the entirety of the state legislature, Bergen County sheriff and board of freeholders will also be on the ballot Tuesday. Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

I will never understand why there's party politics at the town level and, if O'Hagan and Surrago woke up one morning and decided they were Democrats, would the mayor and the rest of the council shun them or not vote for them at election time.
