Halloween Events Kick Off This Weekend

Kids clamoring in the run-up to Halloween to try on their costumes have the chance Saturday.

The Ridgewood Chamber of Commerce is hosting a costume parade and contest in Van Neste from 1 to 4 p.m. Haunted bail hay mazes, a pumpkin hunt and face painting are slated for the family event.

Over in Glen Rock, the chamber and of commerce and Glen Rock Women in Community Service are cosponsoring their own parade. Kids grades three and under can line up at 9 a.m. in Veteran’s Park for a parade followed by trick-or-treating at participating merchants around the central business district.

For the more adventurous Glen Rockers, Central School will have its annual haunted house in the school gym Friday and Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. Less spooky tours, with the lights left on, will be run the first half hour of each evening.

The Ridgewood YMCA will be hosting a Halloween family fun day Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Activities will include music and crafts. Costumes are optional, and the price of admission is only a pumpkin to paint.

And Ridgewood adults looking to embark on a costumed trek through the downtown can participate in the Ridgewood Guild’s second annual Amazing Race, an 18-stop scavenger hunt through the downtown that kicks off at 1 p.m. Find more information here.
