Hometown: Old Bridge, New Jersey
Birthday: July 2
Bio (professional highlights, marital status, hobbies, etc):
For the last dozen years, Lou's been a community journalist, in a variety of communities. He believes no story's too big and no story's too small. It all matters to someone, and it's all worth doing right.
Lou's career has taken him around New Jersey and up to Rhode Island; he knows good bagels and good chowder. He finds courtrooms and press rooms equally fascinating. He can think in picas or megabytes. If there are newsrooms in 50 years, Lou plans to be the old crank in the corner.
Your Beliefs
At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible because human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal their beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable. This disclosure is not a license for you to inject your beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: we hope that the knowledge that your beliefs are on the record will cause you to be ever mindful to write, report and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you ever see evidence that we failed in this mission, please let us know.
Politics
How would you describe your political beliefs? High-minded and arguably impractical.
Are you registered with a certain party? No
Religion
How religious would you consider yourself? (casual, observant, devout, non religious): Non-religious
Local Hot-Button Issues
What do you think are the most important issues facing the community? Right now, the state and local budget crises inform every other issue. Until they're resolved – and they're a long, long way from resolved – just about everything else is secondary.
Where do you stand on each of these issues? There's a lot of government spending that's well-intentioned, but ultimately irresponsible. The government gets its money from you and me and everyone else; it had better be sure it's using it wisely.
