3rd Annual Poster Contest

3rd Annual Earth Day Poster Contest Announced

R&S Landscaping's third annual poster contest theme is “New Jersey Native Plants.” We hold a contest each year around Earth Day to inspire creativity and encourage Bergen County students to be more aware of the diversity and activity in their gardens and local ecosystem.

The poster contest is open to Bergen County grade school students from the first through eighth grades. Students should design a poster no larger than 11 by 17 inches in size, focusing on New Jersey native plants and trees such as Flowering Dogwood, Pink Azalea, and Jack in the Pulpit. Invasive plants that are threats to native plants, such as Oriental Bittersweet, Garlic Mustard, and Norway Maple, are encouraged as well. More information about native and invasive plants will be available on the R&S website at www.rscape.com.

Artwork must be drawn or painted on a flat surface with pencil, crayon, marker, paint, or pastel.  All posters must be submitted along with a completed entry form to R&S Landscaping by April 30 to be eligible for the contest. Entry forms can be obtained at www.rscape.com.

The first-place winner of the poster contest will receive a pizza party for their whole class and will have their original artwork displayed at Whole Foods Market in Ridgewood for the month of May and posted on R&S Landscaping’s Web site and Facebook page.

For Earth Day 2013, we wanted to do something both fun and educational. We expect this contest will encourage students to learn about the ecosystem in a way that they can explore and experience for themselves close to home. I look forward to seeing what the students come up with and hope the contests inspire their creativity in addition to teaching them about the diversity of life in the outdoors.
