Benefits of Mulching

Mulch is an essential part of the landscape - here's why!

Think mulch is an after-thought? Think again!

Mulch is as much a part of your landscape as your trees and shrubs. Let’s take a closer look at this wonder-stuff and why its necessary for the safety of your planting investments.

Layer of Protection - Mulch provides a protective layer over the soil surrounding plants’ roots from passing birds and critters.

Climate Control -Applying mulch is like installing central heat and central air for your shrubs. It will keep roots cool in hot weather and warm in the cold weather.

Prevent Weeds - Mulch prevents weed germination. Unwanted plants are less likely to appear in your garden beds when they come up against their arch nemesis: mulch. Mulch makes it harder for seeds to make contact with the soil. And if they do manage to get that far, the mulch covering makes it difficult for the seed to receive enough sunlight needed for it to germinate.

Adds Nutrients - As mulch decomposes, it adds nutrients to the soil, which are then ingested by your trees and shrubs. Your plants will get a healthy boost from this natural plant food.

Adds Beauty - A healthy blanket of mulch compliments both new and established plant beds. The freshness of the mulch keeps the beds looking clean, fresh, and full of life from the tip of the flower to the base of the soil.
